Jimmy Bedsole comes to Whitesburg with 7 years of varsity high school experience, 6 on the 6A level and 1 on the 5A level. He has coached Defensive Backs, Linebackers, Special Teams, and has 3 years of experience as a Defensive Coordinator. He was a part of the coaching staffs that led Huntsville High School and Hazel Green High School to their best seasons in school history. The 2008 Huntsville High School team reached the state semi-finals before falling to powerhouse Hoover. 3 times the defenses that Coach Bedsole helped coach were amongst the top 5 in the state of Alabama. Coach Bedsole has also attended numerous camps and clinics throughout his career to advance his knowledge, including camps focused on teaching the spread offense. He is experienced with weight training and conditioning, including the Bigger, Stronger, Faster program.
Coach Bedsole graduated from Grissom High School in 2000 where he played Defensive Back and Running Back. He then received a B.A. in History from UAH, where he graduated with numerous academic honors. He taught for 4 years at the high school level before deciding to change career paths. He is currently enrolled at Troy University where he is set to graduate in December with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a 4.0 GPA. Coach Bedsole is married to the former Jennifer Guthrie and they have 3 sons: Chris (9), Luke (6), and Drew (2). Jennifer is the general manager at Blue Plate Café in Huntsville and Chris and Luke are both city champion swimmers in their respective age groups.
The opportunity to coach the Whitesburg Lions came at the perfect time for Coach Bedsole. His love of football and kids has him very excited at this opportunity. Coach Bedsole’s goals for the program are to: develop a love of the game, learn the basic fundamentals of football, understand basic weight training techniques and safety, instill discipline, and team with Grissom High School as a feeder program learning their basic terminology and system.
